Five Rings Aerospace gains UAV Operator’s Certificate

On the 12th of February 2016, the Civil Aviation Authority granted Five Rings Aerospace their UAV Operator’s Certificate.

The certificate provides approval for the operation of both powered lift (multi rotor) and fixed wing UAV’s in the small category.

Authorised operations include:

  1. Aerial Photography
  2. Aerial Spotting
  3. Aerial Surveying

We anticipate the UAV Operator’s Certificate leading to exciting new opportunities in the near future. Stay tuned.

CHC FLIR Vibration Analysis

Five Rings Aerospace in conjunction with CHC Helicopters and the Victoria Police Air Wing successfully completed the first flight test of the Airbus Helicopters 365N3 with the new FLIR Systems Dovetail Mount installed.  The new mount was designed by Five Rings Aerospace to alleviate vibration issues that had been present in the existing system.  Using vibration data logging equipment and flying a repeated array of mission profiles, the new mount was found to have a vibration reduction of almost 60% compared to the original design.

For additional details on the system or enquiries on how Five Rings may assist in developing an optimised solution for any role equipment installations please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fire Bombing Water Tank Installation

Five Rings Aerospace in collaboration with Kestrel Aviation have developed a solution for installation of a Conair Fire Fighting System to the Kestrel fleet of Bell 412 Fleet.  The design solution utilised modern technology in 3D scanning and printing to optimise the solution and enable trial fit to be carried out prior to manufacture.  This approach led to a reduction in lead time and production cost for the operator.  The below images demonstrate the process from 3D scanning of the original part to design, 3D print, and trial fit of the components prior to manufacture and implementation of the final item.

The modification was carried prior to the system coming online for the up-coming fire season, and the deployment of the larger and faster Bell 412 in conjunction with the well-established 212 fleet will provide greater protection during the busy months ahead.

For additional information on the installation and how the reverse engineering process can help with the modification of existing components on your fleet, please do not hesitate to contact us.
