Pel-Air, subsidiary of Regional Express, has been awarded a further 12-year contract to deliver the fixed-wing Air Ambulance Services for Ambulance Victoria. The new contract includes provision for two new Beechcraft King Air B260C and two new Beechcraft King Air B360C fixed-wing aircraft. The new Beechcraft King Airs will be delivered in 2022 before undergoing aeromedical modifications, at Bankstown NSW, to meet the requirements of Ambulance Victoria and scheduled to commence operation in January 2024.
Five Rings has been engaged by Pel-Air to provide design, test, certification, and manufacture support for the B260/B360 aeromedical modifications. Systems being integrated into the aircraft by Five Rings include custom machined aluminium medical floors, patient loading systems, stretcher restraint systems, newborn emergency transport service (NETS) stretcher systems, pilot fatigue detection systems, cargo and passenger door opener & closer systems, and air conditioning system modifications.
Five Rings has a longstanding relationship with Pel-Air, having provided specialist aircraft design, certification, and manufacturing services for more than 10 years. The decision to continue working with Five Rings is testament to the successful working relationship both companies share and ensures Victoria has a world-class air ambulance service for the next 12 years.
